physical examinations to diagnose and manage mental health conditions.
• Consulting at various specialty psychiatric clinics like Peripartum, Old age, Substance
Abuse, Prisons, Child and adolescent psychiatry
• Developing and implementing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and providing
psychotherapy under the supervision of senior psychiatrists.
• Conducting tests and evaluations to assess cognitive function, memory, activities of daily
living, and quality of life in patients with age related mental health conditions.
• Providing compassionate and empathetic care to patients ((especially on female acute wards) including crisis intervention, counseling, and education on mental health conditions and treatment options.
•Developing strategies to manage behavioral symptoms of mental illness, such as agitation,
aggression, and depression.
• Utilizing information technology software to support clinical decision making and maintain
accurate and detailed patient records.
• Staying up-to-date with the latest research and guidelines in psychiatry, participating in
training and educational programs, and contributing to research projects
• Organizing academic activities, example; journal review clubs, OSCE demonstrations,
MCQ drills and teaching sessions for registrars and medical students.
• Conducting end of rotation assessment for junior doctors using various assessment tools,
to prime them for college membership exams.

I had an additional duty as a renal transplant coordinator and tasked with the responsibility of counselling patients interested in having a renal transplant, requesting basic radiological, laboratory & immunological investigations, preparing presentation slides for MDT meeting for patients that met all required criteria for transplant, and follow up on these patients and post renal transplant.
Core Psychiatry Exposure-
In my final year (Jan 2021 - May 2022), I requested to be attached to the psychiatric team during my rotations. This provided me with direct experience in:
1) Assessing patients with acute psychiatric presentations such as psychosis including steroid induced psychosis, suicidal ideation, substance withdrawal, and mood disorders, just to name a few.
2) Conducting mental state examinations and contributing to management plans under senior supervision.
3) Participating in psychiatric ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings with psychiatrists, mental health nurses, psychologists, and social workers.
4) Managing patients with complex co-morbid medical and psychiatric needs, especially those admitted through the ED.
5) Gaining practical understanding of principles of safeguarding in clinical decision-making.
